First of all I have to say a huge thank you to Ruth Pocock who has designed this gorgeous banner for the newsletter! I LOVE it. I’ve put her instagram at the end.
Being ‘hot’ as a coach is on my mind. Not least because the UK, where I am, is generally roasting hot today. I’ve also just sent out the notes for my group coaching course, ‘Relight Your Freelance Fire’ so all in all I’m thinking about the HEAT.
And with coaching in mind, it got me thinking about whether we are ‘hot’ as a coach, and if our business is - and needs to be - on fire.
Do you have to be the hottest - or coolest - coach out there to get clients? Do you have to be a super-whizz on reels and stories so you look like the best coach, the trendiest and the most ‘on it’. Is it about being well-dressed, all made up, with a cool background?
Do you make your courses or products look so HOT people must get them ‘while they last’?! I often see (and do this myself), shout outs on social media saying things like ‘THREE PLACES LEFT!’ or ‘Final day to book!!!’. It’s often hard to believe, and I think some people can be put off by that ‘buy now or regret it’ mentality, especially with something as personal and invested as coaching.
OR… are you more of a slow burn? Do you prefer to take things more slowly, telling potential clients about how they can work with you in a more considered way? Are you more about staying calmer and cooler, not in a ‘trendy’ way, but more of a ‘let’s talk when you’re ready’ client approach?
For me, I tend to make my approach much like my favourite weather - a bit inbetween. My favourite type of day is a sunny autumnal day. You don’t need suncream, you won’t sweat all day, but the sun is out, lighting the sky and the air is dry. I shout a little on social, but I try to be ‘me’, and speak honestly. And, if someone wants to chat coaching, I do it on their time. If they want to sign up to a workshop, they need to do it when they’re ready. As my mum always used to say: ‘One volunteer is worth ten pressed men’.
How about you? Hot hot hot, or keeping it cool? How do you like to speak to clients and see your business?
